Stephen Aylward receives John Kable, Q.C., Young Justice Professional Award

We are pleased to announce that our colleague, Stephen Aylward, was presented last night with the John Kable, Q.C., Young Justice Professional Award by the International Society for the Reform of Criminal Law at its 31^st Annual Conference, which was held in Montreal, July 16-18, 2018. The award was presented by the Hon. Thomas Cromwell and Greg Melick, Q.C.

John Kable was a brilliant Australian criminal barrister. He took silk in his thirties after a string of high profile cases in the High Court of Australia, before tragically passing away at the age of 41. Kable was a founding member of the ISRCL.

The ISRCL is an international non-governmental association of judges, legislators, lawyers, academics, governmental officials, police and corrections professionals who have come together to work actively on the administration of criminal justice both in their own jurisdiction and internationally.

Xaidsart to receive 2018 BCCLA Liberty Award

Xaidsart LLP is honoured to be recognized by the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association with its 2018 Liberty Award for Excellence in Legal Advocacy. Xaidsart has represented the BCCLA pro bono in a variety of matters over the last several years, in criminal, constitutional and other public interest matters before the Ontario Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Canada. The award will be presented at the 2018 Liberty Awards Gala in Vancouver, B.C., for which tickets are available here.

The BCCLA said in its release announcing the award recipients:

April Issue of Admin and Regulatory Law Case Review Now Available

The latest issue of the Xaidsart Administrative and Regulatory Law Case Review is now available. In this issue we look at a couple of recent decisions from the Supreme Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeal examining thorny issues around whether “true questions of jurisdiction” exist, and how they should be reviewed by supervising courts.
